Former prime minister Dom Mintoff yesterday had a meeting at his residence in Tarxien with several Labour MPs.

It is not known what was discussed but sources believed it cannot but have been the state of the Labour Party.

The MLP is in the throes of leadership elections. Last Thursday Alfred Sant was re-elected as leader, though he had declared originally, after Labour's humiliating defeat in the April 12 election, that he would not be contesting.

Next Thursday sees the election for two deputy leaders.

Mr Mintoff said in public a fortnight ago that Dr Sant should give up the leadership. And one of the challengers at last Thursday's election was a close Mintoff ally, John Attard Montalto.
