Neuter your cats

Well done to all the students for their wonderful paintings on animal awareness. However, it is not only children who need to be educated on this subject, but also their parents, and adult pet owners in general. The problem of stray, unwanted cats has escalated immensely and there is the urgent need for a mass neutering campaign.

There is a limit as to how much more the very small number of volunteers at the animal sanctuaries can do - physically, financially and psychologically. We feel we are digging in sand. It is about time the government takes on responsibility to help relieve some of the heavy burden off the citizen.

Malta has never looked so beautiful, especially with all the newly-planted flowers. A sharp contrast to the sight of thin, dirty, hungry stray cats roaming the streets. Is there not at least one minister/MP (perhaps newly-elected?) to speak up for the animals? Your voice is louder than ours and certainly louder than that of the voiceless (and vote-less) animals.

I appeal to all cat-owners: please neuter your cats. If in doubt of the pros and cons, pay a visit to the cat sanctuary, visit the "room full of kittens", unwanted, begging and crying out for a home. Believe me, it is heartbreaking.
