A group of young footballers, from Football Frenzy Soccer School, recently travelled to England for a seven-day training camp which was conducted by Terry Wateridge.

Wateridge runs a professional football academy and has strong links with various clubs in the UK, including Southampton, Reading and Bournemouth. He also scouts for various clubs from the southern part of England.

The boys had various training sessions with other trialists, all watched by Reading FC youth academy officials including Brendan Rogers, Nicky Hammond (a former goalkeeper at Swindon and Arsenal) and Nabu Basir, who is assistant academy manager and a former Crystal Palace player.

Matthew Francalanza, Jonathan Mifsud, Johan Briffa and Joseph Briffa were also allowed to take part in a trial match with the youth team and all left a positive mark during their time on the field of play.

Hammond, responsible for the younger sector, was particularly impressed with the skills of Michael Nolan, James Paris and Benji Cassar Bernard. In fact, these three boys will again be invited for a 10-day trial with Reading FC in six months' time at the English club's own expense.

The Football Frenzy group, which also included upcoming goalkeepers Dino and Hassan Tatanaki, also had a chance to watch Southampton play at the new St Mary's Stadium against Leeds in a Premier League match which the hosts won 3-2. The youngsters were given a chance after the match to meet some of the popular players involved in that match, including James Beattie, Harry Kewell, Mark Viduka and Alan Smith, and have photographs taken with them.

During their stay in England, Football Frenzy Soccer School officials held talks with their academy counterparts from Reading, Bournemouth, Homefield School, Southampton and Wimbledon and future joint ventures were discussed. It is believed that other similar trips and training camps abroad are in the pipeline.
