The employment and Training Corporation will be sending 15 of its registered unemployed clients to Ireland for training in the hospitality industry. They will be training as waiters and room attendants. The venture is being sponsored by the EU Leonardo da Vinci Programme.
This news was communicated to some 50 ETC unemployed clients who recently attended a two-day Tourism Awareness Seminar on job opportunities in the hospitality industry. The seminar, organised in collaboration with MTA, was held at the ETC in Hal Far, and featured presentations by MTA officials and hospitality employers.
ETC is now seeking the hospitality industry employers' assistance to develop a four-week induction programme in July for these clients before they start their sponsored training in Ireland. During this induction programme, ETC will pay each trainee an allowance of Lm15 a week. Each trainee is expected to attend 20 hours per week on the job training.
Both participants and employers are expected to sign a contract. The employer will be obliged to accept the candidate/s in full-employment on a definite contract after they complete their training in Ireland. Participants will be bound to accept employment.
Participating employers must provide a training programme for the job placement, including details of a qualified trainer, who will be delivering the induction course. Only employers who offer full adequate on-the-job training and a definite working contract for trainees will be accepted.
