St Malta is offering basic IT training to people from various localities, to deploy in the Maltese community IT and Internet competences.

Over 60 people from Kirkop attended the first Digital Divide Training Programme held at the company's Learning Institute in the vicinity.

A graduation ceremony was held recently to recognise the certified Kirkop residents. Kirkop mayor Mario Salerno thanked ST Malta for the initiative and for having included his village as the first students.

ST Malta vice president Mr G. Gretchen stressed ST's commitment to stakeholders including Kirkop's community. Shortly, another group of residents will attend another customised training programme. ST Malta plans to train 400 people from various communities throughout 2003.

A core group of local ST trainers have been trained and certified by the company's university through ST's international experts in the appropriate pedagogical competencies.
