FHRD, in collaboration with the Centre for Labour Studies, University of Leicester, will be organising a session on e-learning.

The session will answer questions on the nature of e-learning, its role in Human Resource Development and the type of learning involved - questions which have been somewhat swept aside by the rising tide of hype surrounding e-learning.

In this session, Dr Jason Hughes from the Centre for Labour Market Studies, University of Leicester, will consider these and closely-related questions. His aim is to dispel some of the myths about e-learning, and to provide a carefully considered analysis of the extent to which e-learning can form part of HRD strategy.

By drawing upon current research within the field and on case studies, Dr Hughes will argue that e-learning is by no means a panacea for workplace learning needs. Nonetheless, he aims to demonstrate that e-learning might have an important role to play in an organisation's skill-supply activities, but only if it is properly incorporated into HRD strategy as a whole.

He intends to advocate a stronger emphasis on the e-learning component of learning technology and to outline the implications of his arguments for organisations looking to implement or develop e-learning solutions.
