Tarxien council exhibition

Denis Calleja is opening his sixth exhibition tonight which includes drawings that are typical of his primitive and oriental styles.

The exhibition, being held in the newly restored house of Tarxien local council, Id-Dar tal-Kejka, in Xintill Street, is being inaugurated by mayor Paul Farrugia.

Born in Tarxien in July, 1954, Denis felt it would be appropriate for him to exhibit his latest work in his native town during the weeks in the run-up to the feast.

A self-taught artist, Denis is also displaying photos of eroded figures, which seem frozen in rock.

Titled Espressjonijiet, the exhibition is a variety of art pieces such as the hard and soft backgrounds with mixed medium. For the first time Denis is also displaying two paintings which glow in the dark.

Those who visit the exhibition can admire the display while listening to the relaxing music composed by the artist himself.

The song Old Temple Street, one of the singles on the CD, will soon be launched in aid of Dar il-Kaptan.

A selection of poems in Maltese, English and Italian will be read at tonight's opening.

Entrance to the exhibition is free. It will remain open until May 25 every day between 9 a.m. and noon and from 5 to 8 p.m. and on Sundays from 9 a.m. to noon.
