Three student organisations yesterday called for the resignation of Karol Aquilina from president of the National Youth Council, citing conflict of interest arising from Mr Aquilina's candidature for a vacant post on the Nationalist Party's General Council.
The Pulse Social Democratic Association, the Labour Youth Forum and the General Workers' Union Youths said the council presidency should be occupied by a person whose first interest was to unify the council's various member organisations, and not contest for a place in the highest structures of a particular political party.
They said that with his involvement in political structures, Mr Aquilina could not be impartial and they therefore could no longer have confidence in him.
