John S. Matts is right in complaining (May 7) about the state of the roads and how Malta needs to tidy its act.
Seeing that he has a keen interest in our islands I would also like to draw his attention to the fact that the hotel he was lodging at was at the centre of a highly controversial environmental dispute as many organisations and locals had opposed its development due to on adverse environmental impact and also due to the nuisance it created in its building stage.
While it is true that most hotels look perfect inside, the truth on the outside is somewhat different.
We hope that tourism will start fitting more within the local environmental context rather than the other way round.
This is why Nature Trust has continually encouraged a greener form of eco-tourism where our natural resources and landscape are protected in a holistic manner.
We also hope that more local catering and hotel outlets work harder for improving their surroundings and start making better use of resources in their day-to-day management.
