A scientific committee has been set up by the Valletta Rehabilitation Project to prepare for the conservation of the chapel of Italy in St John's Co-Cathedral.

The committee is made up of Giorgio Bonsanti, a restorer who directed the school of restoration in Florence for many years, Ioanna Kalikouli, a conservation scientist, Francesca Pique, a restorer at the Getty Conservation Institute, and Rosalia Varoli Piazza who spent years at the Rome restoration institute.

The chapel project is being done by the VRP in collaboration with the St John's Co-Cathedral Foundation and is being financed by the Italian government through the fifth financial protocol. The committee is, however, the responsibility of the Maltese government.
