A public officer has been given a two-year jail term suspended for four years for accepting bribes and forging passports last year.
The officer, whose name and designation cannot be published by court order, pleaded guilty to receiving bribes and forging seals, stamps or other government marks at the airport on October 21, 2002, at 5 p.m.
He also admitted to two counts of forgery, giving false information to the authorities, receiving someone else's passport, forging a passport, forging an immigration document and committing a crime he was duty bound to prevent.
Inspectors Jeffrey Cilia and Neville Xuereb prosecuted.
Dr Raphael Fenech Adami appeared for the officer.
