The Royal Air Force Association (Malta Branch) yesterday held the annual wreath laying ceremony at the Air Forces Memorial, in Floriana to commemorate the unveiling of the memorial by the Queen in 1954.
President Guido de Marco led the ceremony at the memorial which is dedicated to all Commonwealth airmen lost in action in the Mediterranean area and the Balkans during the Second World War and who have no known grave.
Among those placing wreaths with the President were British High Commissioner Vincent Fean and the Australian High Commissioner, Iain Dickie, and the Commander of the Armed Forces of Malta, Brigadier Rupert Montanaro. There were also representatives of the Canadian Consulate, the Royal British Legion and RAFA (Malta Branch).
An AFM trumpeter played the Last Post followed by two minutes silence and the Reveille.
Former RAF personnel attended the ceremony.
