The Winter 2003 issue of an American professional journal, The International Educator, features a study abroad programme in Malta by an American University, the James Madison University of Virginia.
The article emphasises the value of international experiential education and cites the Malta programme as a good example of the benefit of such experiences.
The journal is issued by NAFSA, the Association of International Educators, based in Washington DC, whose membership runs into several thousands.
Entitled 'Beyond Study Abroad', the article describes the intensive five-week Malta programme undertaken by groups of science and technology students from James Madison University of Virginia.
James Madison has been sending groups of 16 to 24 students to Malta for the past five years. All arrangements for the groups are made through the Foundation for International Studies, the international relations arm of the University of Malta.
The programme runs in cooperation with the Institute for Energy Technology of the University of Malta, the Gaia Foundation and the Euro-Mediterranean Centre on Insular Coastal Dynamics.
