Artist Madeleine Gera is displaying her latest collection of oil paintings at the Hotel InterContinental's Carissa Bar.

Smart, the name of the exhibition, which stands for "Some Maltese architectural rural themes", was launched yesterday and is made up of some 15 landscapes of Malta and Gozo, including Bidnija, Grand Harbour, Mesquita Square in Mdina and San Lawrenz in Gozo.

The works were created over a couple of years, the more recent paintings having a larger format.

According to the artist, they are interpretative, rather than photographic - "more of a synthesis of what I am seeing". Some have a strong abstract element and are not straightforward renderings.

This year, instead of holding one major exhibition, Ms Gera has broken down her works into three, the previous two being Florentine Gardens and Little Black Dress.

The exhibition is open for two weeks.
