The Labour Party yesterday paid its respects to the late President Anton Buttigieg and former party activist Jerry Zammit as part of its Worker's Day activities. In paying tribute to Dr Buttigieg, deputy leader Joe Brincat, who led both activities, recalled the former President's contribution in the formulation of the country's constitution and the attainment of freedom.
For a long time in the 1960s, Dr Buttigieg had also put aside his professional career to dedicate himself to political work, he said.
In recalling Jerry Zammit, Dr Brincat said Mr Zammit had given his utmost contribution in 1958 when the Maltese and Gozitans had wanted independence, freedom and the right to determine their own future.
