Victoria council elected Vivienne Galea Pace as mayor and Josef Schembri as deputy mayor, during a meeting at the council's office last Thursday.
Mayor Galea Pace, née Borg Olivier, mother of two sons, is married to Victor Galea Pace, first mayor of Victoria. They are the first couple to both be elected to serve as mayors in their locality.
Mayor Galea Pace is Victoria PN Committee president, president of the Sir Arturo Mercieca primary school council and is a member of the MNPN. She is also a director of MOBC and Gorg Borg Olivier Co. Ltd.
The mayor told The Sunday Times that she is very grateful for the trust placed on her by Victoria residents and for the support of the councillors.
She said the new council will continue working to keep Victoria's streets clean to embellish the locality with social, cultural and sport activities, and will try to solve the parking problem in Gozo's capital city. She believes that the council should be the heart of the community where services are offered to help its citizens in their daily needs.
Deputy mayor Josef Schembri, 26, is a clerk in the Education Division. He contested the local council elections for the second time and has been deputy mayor for the past three years. He hopes the councillors will work hand in hand, like in the past three years, and that their only aim will be for a better locality.
