The Roman Catholic world yesterday celebrated Good Friday - the passion and crucifixion of Our Lord. Many people fasted throughout the day and thousands keenly followed the Maundy Thursday tradition of visiting seven churches, praying at every stop.

Many people fasted throughout the day and thousands keenly followed the Maundy Thursday tradition of visiting seven churches, praying at every stop. Valletta, with its concentration of churches in a small area, was, as always, among the most popular venues. Traditional Good Friday processions were held in several localities around the islands yesterday when men fulfilling vows carried large wooden crosses and heavy chains. Many also walked barefoot.
