Alternattiva Demokratika would be working to ensure that EU standards and regulations protecting workers, consumers and the environment were fully enforced, chairman Harry Vassallo said yesterday.

On behalf of AD, he expressed satisfaction that the Maltese government was signing the European Union membership treaty in Athens.

"AD welcomes the signing of the EU treaty in Athens. AD was part of the national movement for EU membership," he said.

"AD will work to ensure that AD will also contest the elections for the European parliament which will be held next year. AD, together with the European Greens, will continue to participate in building a more democratic, peaceful and sustainable Europe."
