Disma Azzopardi was recently selected as the top performer for March at Bertu's Gym. Azzopardi started bodybuilding in the early 80s at the same club in Gharghur. He took part in his first national competition way back in 1990. Azzopardi won the title of national champion and earned the right to represent Malta in the amateur Mr Universe in Malaysia. It was the year MABA introduced dope tests. Azzopardi tested negative. He figured in other competitions at national level in 1991, 1995, 1998 and 2001 and always placed in the first three positions of the 70kg category.
