A 21-year-old man was yesterday put on probation for 18 months for stealing Lm115 in cash and a bank card from a woman's handbag.

Ronald Camilleri, of St Paul's Bay, pleaded guilty to stealing the cash and card to the detriment of Josianne Gatt and HSBC Bank in St Julian's on September 7, 2002, at about 10 p.m.

He also pleaded guilty to using the card and defrauding Gatt and the bank.

Police Inspector Mario Tonna prosecuted.
