I could not believe Alfred Sant's latest thesis on youths and the EU. If you missed this gaffe allow me to quote the Labour leader's speech on March 24 at the Labour Party headquarters in Hamrun.
Dr Sant said that "the PN succeeded to instil a colonial attitude in youths whereby instead of waving the Union Jack as they used to do in other times, now they are waving the gold-starred Union banners".
As a youth in my 20s, I find these comments sickening. I appreciate that people start to crack under the strain of an election but this statement means Dr Sant is speaking totally out of his shoes.
After having listened to Dom Mintoff insult us youths who are in favour of the EU, by calling us fools and cats, Dr Sant's comments are really the icing on the cake.
By his own admission, Dr Sant believes that youths voted in favour of the EU. In spite of the referendum result, he is still obsessed with denying us a legitimate future as citizens of the EU with all the benefits this carries. His anti-democratic tactics are a clear warning of what we are to expect if the electorate votes him into power.
The reality of it all is that while they may not like each other, both Mr Mintoff and Dr Sant have one thing in common. Their ideals belong to the past and are out of touch with today's world.
So my fellow youths, since we know what Dr Sant thinks of us, let us all show him what we think of him on April 12.
Vote for your future, vote for Europe... again.
