Malta's Grand Harbour and its environs in War and Peace, by Charles J. Boffa published in 2000 by Progress Press, has been cited as one of the six best books deserving special merit, in an exhibition for World Book Day held in early March under the auspices of the Associazone di Cultura and the University of Rome.
Dr Boffa's book featured with others by authors from outside Italy, in the section about the Second World War in the Mediterranean. In their assessment, the adjudicating panel noted: "A book of high historical-socio value which documents various facets of the impact of war on Valletta's harbour. It does justice to the scenario, the fierce bombing and other events that engulfed Malta, social dimensions, medical and health aspects, etc. The book provides a worthy record for the present and future generations".
The top award went to Krise in Nordafrika (Staikov Pencev). Five others, in alphabetical order (including Dr Boffa's) were L'Isola di Creta - La missione di Navi (Jan Altuna); A face Final (Encisco Cruzeiro); J'ai vé dans France occupé (Luis Fontesi) and Sardegna, 1942 (Daniel le Grand).
