The Prince of Wales residence is expected to open its doors in Autumn 2004.

A new private home for the elderly was officially launched in Sliema by CareMalta yesterday. It will be called Prince of Wales Residence and is targeted to open its doors in autumn 2004.

The new residence is situated in the heart of Sliema, along Manwel Dimech Street (which was previously named Prince of Wales Road) and St Mary's Street.

The residence will offer a new concept of independent living, with a wide array of stimulating programmes to meet the social, cultural, and recreational needs of the residents.

The new purposely-designed residence will accommodate 135 residents and include a number of special features such as small apartment-style accommodation together with a number of single and double living units, each equipped with an emergency assistance system. It will also have its own restaurant-style dining room.

Alexander Tranter, chief executive officer of CareMalta said the new home was expected to generate close to 100 new jobs.

CareMalta owns and operates Casa Arkati in Mosta and Villa Messina in Rabat, and operates the government homes in Zejtun and Cospicua.

CareMalta has entrusted Vassallo Builders Ltd as the main contractor responsible for the complete turnkey development of the new residence. Demolition works on site have already started.
