The Federation Trophy was up for grabs in the airweapon competitions held last weekend. Young William Vella clinched the airrifle event, coming back from two points behind in a spectacular finale.

In the airpistol section, the evergreen Anton Camilleri obtained a straightforward success.

Airrifle - 1. William Vella 566+101.1=667.1; 2. Lawrence Darmanin 568+97.9=665.9; 3. Mario Abela 557+95.3=652.3.

Airpistol - 1. Anton Camilleri 572+94.0=666.0; 2. Ray Cacciattolo 529+94.3=623.3; 3. Silvio Bugeja 526+87.2=613.2

Skeet selection shoot

Throughout the weekend, the clay ranges at Bidnija saw plenty of competition.

The third Skeet selection shoot for the Maionchi Cup was spread over two days... 75 clays were shot on Saturday afternoon with the last 50 clays and barrage held on Sunday morning.

Paul Vella outclassed his opponents, shooting a reputable 140 score over the 150 total clays.

1. Paul Vella 116+24=140; 2. Joe Genovese 104+21=125; 3. Silvio Attard 103+21=124.

Emmanuel Grima was the winner of the Double Trap competition thanks to his steady shooting as reflected by his constant scores. Grima finished five clays ahead of his closest rival. The competition on Sunday morning was on 150 clays.

1. Emmanuel Grima 130; 2. Gino Camilleri 125; 3. Mark Sammut 120.

Carabott wins Breda Cup

Trap shooters were last in action on Monday, a public holiday. The Breda Cup was at stake in the 50-clay and 25-clay barrage final competition.

All of the six finalists went into the barrage with nearly the same scores but Nicky Carabott and John Marmara were the clear favourites.

The final was not enough to decide the winner between these two shooters but Carabott took the honours after a shoot-off.
