Mosta and Melita practically killed each other's hopes of pipping Birkirkara to the runner-up spot last weekend after figuring in a 0-0 draw at the Pace Grasso Ground.
With Hibernians already declared champions, the second placing in the standings is the only unresolved issue in the women's league.
Mosta and Melita still have a slim mathematical chance of leapfrogging Birkirkara in second position but the Stripes would have to lose their last two matches in the championship, one of which is against lowly Rabat Ajax who only scored two goals so far after 14 outings.
Mosta were the more adventurous side during the match but their efforts floundered on the organised Melita defence.
Mosta's Jane Coates came closest to breaking the deadlock on two occasions.
In the first half, the woodwork came to Melita's rescue after Coates' powerful drive and, late in the game, the Mosta player's free-kick from outside the box whizzed past the post.
In the other match of the day, Raiders went on to win their third match in the league at the expense of bottom-placed Rabat. Marcia Zammit and Amanda Atkins were the scorers for the winners.
Top scorers: D. Theuma (Hibs) 17 goals; J. Vella, S. Caruana (both Hibs) 10; E. Agliano (Birkirkara) 9; C. Camilleri (Birkirkara), S. Mizzi (Mosta) 8.
Next matches (Sunday): 8.30 a.m. Birkirkara vs Mosta; 10 a.m. Rabat vs Melita; 11.30 a.m. Hibs vs Raiders.
