Prime Minister Eddie Fenech Adami last night inaugurated the new promenade at St Julian's, putting the final seal on a completely renovated two-and-a-half kilometre walkway.
The project includes a stone-sculpture made by Richard England at Spinola Bay with the word Love written upside down. This will be lit up at night and the four-letter word will be reflected onto the water of the picturesque bay.
Resources and Infrastructure Minister Francis Zammit Dimech said the government had carried out projects at Marsaxlokk, Birzebbuga, Gzira, Sliema and St Julian's at a cost of Lm11 million.
Since parts of the promenade had to be reconstructed from scratch, and the project had to be split into four phases, the minister explained. It included the widening of the promenade in various parts, the laying of new infrastructural services, and the construction of a new waterpolo pitch in St Julian's.
Dr Zammit Dimech said the government would now be carrying out works at Spinola Square and Triq San Gorg.
In the coming months, embellishment works would also be taken in hand at Paceville.
