An agreement reached between the GRTU, Association of General Retailers and Traders, and Enemalta Corporation will increase the commission to petrol station owners on the sale of fuel by 10.2 per cent over a two-year period effective from April, the GRTU said.
The agreement, the GRTU stressed, would not be affecting the price of diesel or petrol at the pump.
The association said the owners would be setting up a collective financial fund and the capital accumulated would be used to maintain petrol and diesel pumps to the highest level and to replace the pumps as technology changed and the pumps became old.
The GRTU said the agreement reached on behalf of the petrol station owners would ensure the continuation of the strong investment in petrol stations so that these would continue to provide a service of the highest quality.
The association said that throughout the last six years, as a result of the agreement between Enemalta and the GRTU, which is renewed every two years, Malta had a most advanced petrol station system.
The GRTU said the agreement was reached with the collaboration of Economic Services Minister Josef Bonnici, Finance Minister John Dalli and Mimcol.
