Students from the Institute of Tourism Studies won a number of medals at the SCOTHOT World Culinary Grand Prix competition which was held in Glasgow last week. National teams from Ireland, Scotland, the US, the Czech Republic and Luxembourg competed as well.
The results were seen as particularly impressive, considering that the students were competing against national teams composed of highly experienced chefs.
Student Ian Micallef won one Gold, one Silver and Best in Class in the Fat Carving category while another Gold in the same section was won by Jason Portelli.
Fourteen Bronze medals were won in the Shell Fish Dish, Pasta, Buffet and Restaurant of Nations categories, besides five Certificates of Merit.
The students were accompanied by their tutors, Jesmond Atkins and Ivan Zammit. The Maltese team was sponsored by Air Malta and the Malta Cookery and Food Association.
