Applications for Church schools slightly down

The Curia received a total of 4,097 applications for the 1,116 vacancies in Church schools for the academic year starting in September.

This is slightly lower than in 2002, when 4,250 children applied, and 2001 when 4,324 applied.

In kindergarten, there were 1,564 applications for 428 places, 222 of which will be drawn by lot.

In pre-grade, there were 1,187 applications for 288 places, 136 of which will be drawn by lot.

In year one, there were 1,346 applications for 400 places, 184 of which will be drawn by lot.

The rest of the places are allocated to special cases, siblings and children from Church homes.

The students' names started to be drawn by lot yesterday at the Curia in Floriana, a process which continues today and tomorrow.
