The statistical office of the European Communities, Eurostat, reported that industrial production in the 15 member states of the European Union increased by 0.8 per cent in January this year after a fall of 1.4 per cent in December, 2002 and a rise of 0.5 per cent in November.
The euro zone industrial production in January, 2003 increased by 1.1 per cent compared to December, 2002. Production in the euro zone decreased by 1.6 per cent in December, 2002 after an increase of 0.6 per cent in November.
In January, 2003 compared to January, 2002, industrial production increased by 0.7 per cent in the euro zone and by 0.3 per cent in the EU15.
Eurostat reports that the total hourly labour costs in the whole economy in the 15 member states of the EU rose by 3.6 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2002, compared to 3.5 per cent in the previous quarter.
The total hourly labour costs in the euro zone grew by 3.7 per cent in nominal terms in the fourth quarter of 2002 compared to the fourth quarter of 2001.
