I am among those who want my country to join the EU. Nothing, in my view, is so important for the political, economical and social life of Malta and Gozo as EU membership.

This implies that in the forthcoming general election we must at all costs elect a government whose leader is committed to sign the Accession Treaty in Athens on April 16. There is no other option.

General elections are held at regular intervals but this splendid chance of EU membership will not come again in the foreseeable future.

We must not miss the immense benefits which EU membership brings to us, to our children and to future generations of Maltese citizens.

Let us put aside personal inclinations and act for the common good. Let us not take risks. Let us do our duty on April 12.
