Essays are written in class under supervision and an adjudicating panel selected the finalists. St Edward's College succeeded in gaining the Sixth Form first and second prizes, which went to Edward Vernon and Peter Farrugia, as well as a merit prize, which went to Nigel Said. Fifth former James Vernon was placed third and Andrea Darmanin was awarded a merit prize.
St Edward's College is an English-speaking school where boys are given training in the language from a very early age. Many boys excel in English at all levels.
