Worked without a permit

A Syrian man was yesterday given a two-year jail term suspended for three years for working in Malta without a permit.

Gheyas Dahrouj, 29, pleaded guilty to working without a permit on and before January 16.

Magistrate Abigail Lofaro noted that Dahrouj had a clean criminal record and that he had been detained in preventive custody since January 17.

Police Inspector Denise Mula prosecuted.
