After the significant success obtained by local athletes in last year's FISEC Games in Malta, the FISEC Malta committee, chaired by Brother Martin Borg, is now already preparing for the participation in the 2003 edition which will be held in the Spanish city of Salamanca between July 19 and 25.

This will be the 54th edition of the FISEC Games and first estimates suggest that over 1,400 athletes will be taking part.

In fact, the next Games are expected to feature, among others, the contingents from Brazil and Croatia who in past years had failed to participate for various reasons.

The inclusion of these two countries will make the Games more attractive and will give all representatives, including the Maltese, an opportunity to compete against athletes from an increased variety of participating nations.

Malta will be taking part in a number of disciplines - volleyball, basketball, football (seven-a-side), athletics and swimming.

In some events, Malta will be represented in both male and female categories.

Final selection

All athletes involved are currently undergoing intensive preparation prior to the final selection which will be made in the coming weeks.

The FISEC Games, both in Malta and abroad, have gained in popularity and respect and considered by many prospective athletes as an ideal first experience on the international scene.

Several elite sports personalities around the world tasted their first international success during the FISEC Games.
