A major burst water pipe developed in a prime tourist area of Bugibba at the top of Triq Censu Tanti, St Paul's Bay, on Tuesday, March 16, and was reported to the authorities on phone number 80072227 that same day. A reminder call was phoned in every day since then.

On Friday, March 22, we informed the Water Services Corporation's Office in St Paul's Bay who told us they did not take action as they were not notified by the appropriate office.

The repairs were started on Saturday, March 23, when a hole was dug and the workers returned on Sunday to complete the repairs, until which time the water remained gushing down all the way through Triq ic-Caghaq, leading to the petrol stations on the main road, culminating in one massive puddle for tourists and all to have to walk through to reach the bus stops.

Can the WSC chairman investigate and explain why we had to wait six days for the repairs to be affected and why were the repairs completed over a weekend? Does this practice create any financial savings for the corporation? Is labour cost cheaper for the corporation over the weekend? This is not the first instance when a burst pipe was reported mid-week and the repairs were completed over a weekend.

Anyone who purchased water through a private water supplier can easily estimate the hundreds of liri that were wasted through this leak because of the delay that it took to be repaired.

We deserve an explanation.
