It was a hive of activity at the Institute of Tourism Studies in Pembroke yesterday with an open day for students and prospective students, during which they were given the opportunity to meet representatives of the tourism industry and discuss job prospects.
The institute, which organises nine different courses, has close to 800 full-time students including 16 foreigners and nearly 200 part-timers, including four foreigners.
Although great interest is shown by foreign students in the institute's courses, their intake is limited as first preference is given to Maltese applicants.
However, as from the next scholastic year a new course in hospitality management is to be organised, aimed completely at foreigners.
The open day yesterday included an exhibition of projects by students at the assembly hall and a culinary competition. Food and beverage service demonstrations were given at the school's Pembroke Suite Restaurant.
The open day continues today with a parents' cookery competition.
