Labour Party leader Alfred Sant yesterday sued the Nationalist Party television station for libel.

Dr Sant filed his writ in the Magistrates' Court against Net TV head Anton Attard and L-Ghazla presenter Pierre Portelli.

Dr Sant claimed libel over the March 13 programme during which it was alleged he organised a gang of people to accompany him to the counting hall so that they could attack the journalists of Net TV and the Nationalist Party.

The expression coup d'état and the claim that Dr Sant was "mad" were also mentioned in this context, Dr Sant claimed.

The truth is he was assaulted by some journalists and other people when he visited MLP agents at the counting hall, he said.

Dr Pawlu Lia signed the suit.
