Malta has concluded an agreement with the European Union on participating in programmes aimed at upgrading public health levels, the Department of Information said.

Michael Huebel, an EU representative from the Health Directorate General, was in Malta at the invitation of Health Minister Louis Deguara in connection with the programmes.

The DOI said Malta would start taking part before becoming an EU member. A call for proposals is to be made in the coming weeks.

The programmes will see the Health Ministry involved in initiatives dealing with public health promotion and action against health hazards.
