Blood donations urged

Members of the Occupational Health and Safety Authority recently donated blood at the Blood Transfusion Unit in Guardamangia.

Their donation was in answer to an appeal made by the unit because of shortages of blood of all groups.

"Many donations of blood are needed every day to help treat patients in hospital. It is not a painful process - a few minutes can save a person's life," a representative of the authority said.

The authority said it hoped that this gesture would raise awareness of the need for blood and that more entities would encourage their employees to follow the example and actually roll up their sleeves and give a pint of blood.
