The Old Motors Club, in conjunction with the St Paul's Bay council, the Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association (MHRA) and the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) is holding its annual St Paul's Bay Vintage and Classic Car Rally and show on Saturday and Sunday. Some 60 vintage and classic cars are expected to converge on Bay Square, Bugibba, at around noon. Cars will range from a 1933 Morris Oxford to a 1978 MGB Roadster, with a myriad of classics, some of them ultra-rare, in between.
At around 2.30 p.m. 40 of these cars will start leaving Bay Square at one-minute intervals on a consistency run which will take them into the nether regions of the St Paul's Bay council's boundaries.
Along their prescribed route, they will be clocked at strategic points by marshals as well as call on some nine hotels to collect their route checks. Those who are early will be penalised by two points per minute; those who are late will incur a penalty of one point per minute.
Eagle-eyed marshals will also look out for any traffic contraventions that will incur a range of penalty points.
The first stage of the rally ends at Bay Square and cars will remain on show until around 5 p.m.
On Sunday the rally kicks off at around 10.30 a.m. with the last car expected back at Bay Square at around 1 p.m. Cars will remain on show till around 5 p.m.
Around 200 people will be participating in the event and many of them will be lodged at the Bugibba Holiday Complex for the weekend, in the spirit of rallies held abroad.
Winners will be announced during a reception to be held at the Sol Suncrest in Qawra on Sunday night.
