Total imports in January this year increased by Lm6.1 million to Lm94.6 million from Lm88.5 million last year, while total exports increased by Lm23.9 million to Lm88.0 million from Lm64.1 million last year, the National Statistics Office said.

Importation of industrial supplies was up by Lm7 million to Lm51.6 million from Lm44.6 million last year.

Imports of capital goods dropped by Lm1.1 million to Lm13.1 million this year.

The NSO said that at Lm20.7 million, the importation of consumer goods was up by Lm0.6 million over last year.

Fuel imports dropped by Lm0.4 million to Lm6.2 million in January this year.

In the period under review, total exports increased by Lm23.9 million.

On their own, domestic exports were up by Lm22.6 million to Lm75.4 million from Lm52.8 million last year.

Re-exports increased by Lm1.3 million to Lm12.6 million.

Compared to January last year, the visible trade gap in January this year contracted by Lm17.8 million to Lm6.6 million.
