A Ta' Xbiex man was yesterday given a two-year jail term suspended for four years and put on probation for three years for burgling five houses between January and February.

Kevin Camilleri, 31, pleaded guilty to burgling four houses in Swieqi and one in Attard.

Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera heard how Camilleri had drug problems and was willing to attend a drug rehabilitation programme.

The magistrate ruled that Camilleri deserved a chance to integrate himself back into the society he formed part of, particularly since she believed that he was willing to make the effort.

Police Inspector Chris Pullicino prosecuted.
