The picture of the truck which overturned near Maghtab on March 4 and published in The Times, sent shivers down my spine. I thank God that the driver is reported to be "not seriously injured".

It seems it is the habit with us Maltese to take steps to remedy certain situations only after a tragic accident is reported. A case in point is the action taken by someone responsible in the dangerous spot where Sonny Monte recently lost his life. But it only happened... after a tragic loss occurred.

The Telgha t'Alla w Ommu is another very dangerous spot. One wonders what the authorities are waiting for to have this road, very much used by heavy vehicles and others, including school children's transport, to have it decently tarmacked. This road is also in pitch darkness, and we have only to thank God, that this is not a death trap for someone going into Mosta from Burmarrad or the Maghtab area.

While on the subject of roads, I wish to draw the attention of the local council to the number of gaping holes in Church Square, Mosta. These potholes increase in number after every function held in the square. Once the activity is over, the holes are left uncovered offering the danger of a broken limb to pedestrians.

I suggest that before there is an activity or function in the square, which needs poles fixed in the ground, permission is sought from the council for the digging, and strict instructions given by the council that all holes are to be properly covered afterwards.
