For the 18th Malta Marathon last month, the Ladies' Running Club fielded no fewer than 20 runners.
One member opted to run the full marathon. This was Mary Rose Herd, a seasoned marathon runner who has figured in many marathons including the one in London. Herd placed third Maltese female after Cecilia Fenech and Carmen Hili.
A LRC team was third in the half marathon behind the outfits from St Patrick's AC and Zurrieq Wolves. The LRC runners in the team were Silvana Camilleri, Daniela Casha and Liz Said who were fifth, seventh and 12th respectively overall.
In the categories awards, Marie Therese Cassar was second O50, Said first O55 and Cecilia DeGaetano and Geraldine Cassar Torregiani were top two in O60. The LRC is a club for female athletes.
Its members were the first to take part in the Malta Marathon when it was first established and have taken part in all editions of this prestigious race.
Meanwhile, the club is holding meetings for beginners who are interested in taking up the sport. One may obtain more details by phoning 21-430137 or 21-313300.
