The Gieh in-Nadur Award was this year won by quadriplegic mouth painter Frans Camilleri. The award was presented recently during a ceremony hosted by Peter Paul Buttigieg with the participation of guest singer Chiara, organised by the local council at Nadur's parish hall.
The artist thanked the local council for recognising his talent, and for its commitment to make public areas accessible to persons with disability.
Nadur mayor Dr Chris Said explained the aims behind the annual award. He also recalled the projects carried out by the council in the past year and referred to projects which will be taken in hand.
Certificates were presented to those who attended one of the nine courses organised by the council. Certificates for parental skills, a course organised in collaboration with Sedqa, were presented by Minister Giovanna Debono, in the presence of Sedqa representatives. Certificates for other courses, including basic art and publishing were presented by Dr Said.
As part of a number of initiatives taken to mark the year dedicated to persons with disability, the council then presented the local public library with several reference books which can be used by disabled persons. Joseph Portelli also presented books to the library.
