Charles Farrugia, head archivist at the National Archives of Malta in Rabat, will be giving an illustrated presentation on Thursday as part of this year's monthly series of public talks organised by the heritage organisation Din l-Art Helwa together with the International Council of Museums, Malta.
The talk, which starts at 6 p.m., will be held at the headquarters of DLH at 133, Melita Street, Valletta. Entrance is free.
DLH said the presentation aims at giving an overview of Maltese archives and will highlight the main archival records of the country.
It gives an assessment of the current state of archives and records management policies in Malta. The value of archival records, both as administrative tools and as cultural heritage, will be discussed.
The lecture also discusses the future of archives in Malta in the light of current international developments in the sector. Of particular importance are issues such as the management of electronic records, data protection, and the use of technology such as microfilming, digitisation and websites to preserve, promote and give access to archival holdings.
Information will be given about the recent catalogues published in CD format by the National Archives of Malta and plans for future projects.
