I refer to Marco Dazzi's letter regarding the possibility of Malta as a possible venue for the next Luis Vuitton and Americas Cup in 2007, in which he goes on to describe Malta's major international sailing event as "absolutely nothing", "a few good boats coming in" and "we only have the Middle Sea Race".

The history of the Middle Sea Race is one of unparalleled success. The event, founded by the Royal Malta Yacht Club and the Royal Ocean Racing Club is currently recognised as the premier offshore racing event in the Mediterranean circuit and one of the top regattas in the world. The list of competitors, yacht designers and builders reads like a "who's who" in yachting.

Thanks to the effort of the Royal Malta Yacht Club, its members, sponsors and the government, the Rolex Middle Sea Race has now become one of the top yacht racing events in the world and now joins other prestigious events, including the Rolex Sydney Hobart, the Rolex Fastnet Race, the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup, the Giraglia Rolex Cup, the St Francis Big Boat Series and the International Rolex Regatta in St Thomas.
