At the end of the Swieqi council meeting held on January 27, which was attended by councillor Doris Matrenza, the council agreed that the next meeting should be held on February 20.
Mrs Matrenza excused herself from attending this meeting on medical grounds. She also sent a letter to the council's executive secretary stating her views regarding the motion proposed by the undersigned and seconded by deputy mayor Carmen Said. As Mrs Matrenza was not present for the meeting she could not vote, however her comments, as stated in the letter, were read before the vote was taken.
The motion which was unanimously approved is related to the funding of programmes and other opportunities by the European Union. Swieqi local council and the youths of the locality have already benefited from such programmes and other contacts have been made so that other youths will also benefit from similar programmes.
Although Mrs Matrenza is in a minority, she was always treated cordially by her colleagues and no political issues were ever raised during the council meeting.
