The Consumer Claims Tribunal decided 10 cases during January, 2003.
Eight cases were decided in favour of the consumer, two claims were not upheld.
Claims concerned, among others, an order of tiles on which a deposit was paid but that was never delivered; a top that got torn after it was worn only once; a mattress which caused backpain to its user due to a bulge it developed; the damage caused to a vehicle's petrol sump while it was being towed and two air conditioners which made a lot of noise - one of which also leaked water.
Compensation awarded ranged from Lm550, refunded for an air conditioner whose louvres did not work properly, to Lm35 as refund for a shower tray which cracked after six months.
