Mooring man critical after accident

A 59-year-old Marsascala man is in a critical condition after an accident at the Delimara power station yesterday morning.

Alfred Bone, who is employed as a mooring man by the Malta Maritime Authority, was injured when a vessel's mooring cable snapped and hit him on the head, police said.

The foreign ship Allegra had just unloaded oil and was about to leave at the time of the accident.

The man was rushed to hospital where he was found to be in a critical but stable condition. Members of the Health and Safety authority were called to the scene of the accident.

A number of experts have been appointed to look into the cause of the accident. Birzebbuga police are investigating.
